The properties of coated paper

Our coated paper inspires with its sharp reproduction of details, high contrast, rich colours which make images come alive. The smooth coated surface of coated paper gives printings a classy finish which is optionally available dull or glossy. Moreover, we offer further finishing options for our coated paper stock to increase the durability of your printed products or allow you to highlight entire pages or individual design elements.

Glossy and silk coated paper

Silk coated paper produces semi-gloss colours with a touch of sheen but a matt overall appearance. The higher the paper weight, the thicker the paper feels. The strength and dull-glossy look give printings on silk coated paper a sophisticated and elegant touch. The surface of matt paper has a slightly coarse feel to it regardless of the paper weight. This is particularly noticeable when comparing it to its gloss-coated counterpart.

The glossy coate paper adds a special sheen to designs. Incoming light is visibly reflected. Although fingerprints show easily on the smooth surface, it provides better scratch and wear resistance than the matt version. Glossy coated paper in any weight feels smooth and soft giving printed products a nice surface feel.

Tips on choosing coated paper

Glossy vs. matt: Which finish is suitable for which products?

Basically, both matt and glossy coated paper is suitable for small-sized products such as flyers, posters, folded cards and postcards. Thanks to its surface texture, we recommend matt paper without finish if you want to create a high-class sophisticated look and feel – for business cards or event tickets, for example. Glossy paper in contrast yields vivid and crisp colours which makes it ideal for printings where the focus in on the design such as flyers or catalogues.

Can you write on coated paper?

It is generally possible to write on coated paper, however not with all types of pens. If you want to write on your printings, we recommend offset paper.
